Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust is the first national charity in the UK dedicated solely to the support of patients with Thyroid Cancer. As a group they offer fellow thyroid cancer patients use of a dedicated helpline to speak to someone who has the disease; email and telephone contact with group members to share experiences; a ‘buddy’ to help people through surgeries and treatment; access to reliable and up-to-date information on the disease. James Salter is a trustee of the Trust.
The Trust was set up in 1997 in memory of Charlie Waller, a young man who took his own life whilst suffering from depression. Shortly after his death, his family founded the Trust in order to educate young people on the importance of staying mentally well and how to do so. Their vision is a world where people understand and talk openly about depression, where young people know how to maintain wellbeing, and where the most appropriate treatment is available to everyone who needs it.
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust exists to protect Africa’s wildlife and to preserve habitats for the future of all wild species. Working across Kenya, their projects include anti-poaching, safe guarding the natural environment, enhancing community awareness, addressing animal welfare issues, providing veterinary assistance to animals in need, rescuing and hand rearing elephant and rhino orphans, along with other species so they can ultimately enjoy a quality of life in wild terms when grown.
